As immigrants living in the US, just like thousands of people from all over the globe, it is fundamental for us as Gambians to come together and organize as a community. It is understandable that each individual and family unit will have to focus on the necessary things like getting a job and ultimately taking care of your family both here and at home. A community organization will never be a substitute to our individual initiatives, but as the saying goes: “it takes a village” to bring about development in our own community. The Atlanta Gambian Emergency Relief Association (AGERA) is here to be the facilitator in addressing issues, emergencies and other pertinent issues relevant to our socio-cultural development.
AGERA is poised to bring great things to our community, but these things can only be done by having committed members who are ready to make the commitment and take ownership, and bring about the very developments needed in our community. Now is the time to become an AGERA member, I could hear you saying that I do not have the time to be attending meetings, or taking responsibilities that may pose a problem to my job schedule. We would like to reassure you that your job and family should always come first, and AGERA will always support you in that regard. But, by becoming a member, you re also saying that my community is my bigger family and I cannot afford to totally neglect them as well
